Award-winning public servant Cameron Sasai is a West County native, West County Councilmember, and alumnus of Contra Costa and Diablo Valley community colleges.

A first-generation American, Cameron is a statewide legislative advocate for one of California’s leading immigrants’ rights organizations where he fights for legislation to protect our communities from illegal detention and deportation actions by the federal government.

This work builds on his West County leadership to prohibit federal immigration enforcement on public properties and ensuring local residents have access to Know Your Rights and legal aid materials.

As a former local Mayor and current West County Councilmember, Cameron promotes economic development and affordable housing, supports small businesses and union jobs, and protects our clean air and water. He championed one of California’s toughest Safe Storage of Firearms local laws, enacted the Bay Area’s first ban on new gas stations, and passed policies to encourage use of union-made vehicles and printing.

Raised by a Filipina immigrant mother and a Japanese American father from a farm working background, Cameron transferred from Diablo Valley College to earn a Public Service degree from the University of California, Davis.

His vision has always been to provide the same opportunities to others. During his time at Diablo Valley College, Cameron worked as an enrichment mentor for young students and designed curriculum to support future career aspirations.

He later established paid internship programs for local high school students in the City of Pinole.
